Wondeful and good for you. I used pinto instead of kidney beans as I've read pintos have more nutritional value. I used diced tomatoes instead of tomato sauce and added two teaspoons of diced garlic. I cut the cumin to avoid the "chili" comments a few had shared. I too used chicken broth instead of h2o. I served this over brown rice, again because it's a whole grain, and information technology was and so yummy. Bully recipe that y'all tin throw together in a few minutes and allow to cook all day. I did viii hours on low and so it was on warm for about 2 hours. It was perfect.

Excellent- I was and so happy with the way this turned out! I used 2 cans of lycopersicon esculentum sauce, one tin can of diced tomatoes, 2 cans of beans (not-tuckered) and 1 additional can of beans (drained). Don't add the h2o- allow the liquid from the beans and the tomatoes exist the broth! I cooked this on the stove in a large pot in about an hour and a half- no problems. Also- wait to add the cabbage until you're about halfway done, and definitely add together nearly a full head of cabbage. This was bully and we will be enjoying this again- thank you!

Thank you for sharing this recipe!!! I've made it over and over again since I first stumbled upon it, and my whole family unit loves information technology. I'm giving it 5 out of v stars because it's a cracking concept and it lead me to a new family favorite; but in my opinion it needs a few adjustments. The first time I made it I followed the recipe exactly and we found it to be a niggling overpowering. Since then, I make it with the post-obit changes: I use half the cumin, half the pepper, 1 16 oz. tin can of kidney beans, one 15 oz. tin of tomato sauce, two 14 oz. cans of craven broth, and no h2o. I also added 1/ii tsp. each of garlic powder and onion powder. This suits our tastes much better and makes the soup alot less chili-like. I also leave out the oil because I don't see a need for the added calories/fat, and have found that leaving it out doesn't accept anything away from the soup. To make this recipe in alot less time: Fry the hamburger and onion in a large soup pot until browned, drain, and put back in the same pot. Add all of the other ingredients to the pot and bring to a boil. Once boiling, turn the rut downwardly to med-low and cover with a lid. Simmer for 1/2 hr to 45 minutes or until the cabbage is tender, stirring occasionally. Serve and savor :)

The soup was very tastey. It does remind me of a thin chili. Next time I beleive I will only use two beefiness bouillon cubes. I likewise learned you may want to add together cabbage half manner through cooking time. And so information technology is not over cooked.
06/15/2007
We really enjoyed this soup. It tastes a lot like the cabbage beef soup at Shoneys restuarant. My hubby had never heard of cabbage beef soup before, only he really really loved. I did add together some garlic pulverization when frying the meat, and I also cut upwardly some celery and dropped it in too.
10/24/2005
My husband and I both loved this soup. I but used 2 cans of lycopersicon esculentum sauce and substituted the third tin can with a can of diced tomatoes. I did not add the water at all and did not drain the beans. It made a thick flavorful soup which I cooked in the crock pot.
02/fourteen/2006
Chili beans were a hit in this recipe. I also used beef base of operations instead of cubes to cutting downward on the sodium. Basis turkey fabricated this even lower fat; a great style to add some cruciferous vegetables to your diet! Healthy and delicious!
04/06/2008
This did seem a bit like chili with cabbage in information technology. I used ranch mode beans and blackness beans too as a 14 oz. tin can of diced tomatoes and sixteen oz. of tomato sauce. I added garlic to the beefiness and reduced the cumin a flake.
02/xix/2007
I gave this a five fifty-fifty tho i change a coupel thing, i did not take kidney beans, but i used fresh green beans (my kids beloved those) made a double batch hoping to freeze some merely it did not final, brought some to piece of work and it was gone!! kids loved information technology too definatly brand again
07/17/2006
this is very good. Very much like the one I make. I add a large can of tomatoes including juice, the can full of water, two stalks of celery, and two 8 oz tin of Love apple sauce.
03/20/2012
I made this last nighttime in the crock pot and it was succulent! I added polish sausage, and used lean turkey vs. ground beef, 2 cans of light kidney beans, two cans of chopped tomoatoes, some fresh garlic clove, garlic powder, season salt, and I used an entire caput of chopped cabbage and put the cabbage in last so that information technology would non get over cooked. I also did not add together the h2o, because cabbage produces h2o when it cooks. I am giving this 5 stars considering it was very flavorful and salubrious using the basis turkey and light ingredients. I will post pictures.
12/22/2010
I left out the salt and cumin. Because information technology had burgoo cubes and canned sauce and beans,it already had plenty of salt. The cumin made it taste like chili which was non what I wanted. Overall it had a dainty color and gustation.( Apply dark ruby-red kidney beans for color ). I likewise served with chopped cilantro . Those who like cilantro idea information technology a fantastic addition. This is a low cost and satisfying meal. If I make it the solar day before..whatsoever fat rises and solidifies on peak and can hands exist removed for a low fatty meal. Cracking with cornbread.
11/05/2007
This is nice hearty soup for a cool fall twenty-four hours. Fifty-fifty though I didn't use cumin, it still tastes like chili w/cabbage to me. I used a lot of the suggested modification: 2 cans of tomato sauce, can of diced tomatos-not drained, a little minced garlic. My bullion cubes were almost 6 years former, so I used a tin can of beefiness broth instead. I browned the beef and added all to the crock pot about vii and it was on low all day until we ate at half-dozen.
04/08/2010
Made this again today (04/25/x) as we all just loved it. I now telephone call information technology my Stuffed Cabbage soup every bit I have also thrown in some leftover rice--i/2 to 3/4 cup. And with the Paprika and other seasonings it really does taste a chip like blimp cabbage. I always saute onions (usually add celery too) until a bit of browning occurs then add the beef. Once the beef is drier and brown I add the paprika and cumin and let them toast a bit earlier adding all the liquid. Really GOOD!!!! Just made this for dinner on a rather blustery spring twenty-four hours and information technology was very good. I made some changes similar adding iii carrots chopped, a 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes, ane 14.5 oz can tomato sauce, 1/two to 1 tsp basil, 1/ii to 1 tsp oregano, 1 tblsp sweet paprika, a few bay leaves, 1 tsp garlic powder (didn't have fresh) and a skilful sprinkling of cayenne pepper every bit we similar a bit of goose egg. As well used Jamison's Beef soup Base and almost xviii oz of beefiness stock. I then rinsed the tomato and Bean cans and added that water to the pot,--super thick and smokey delicousness. Married man had two big bowls!
03/28/2011
I've made this delicious soup since 2007. I really liked the cabbage beef soup that Shoney'due south offers on the cafe & then used this site's smashing tool to type in ingredients you're looking to combine and to my cracking delight this recipe comes up AND a review mentioning this soup tastes like the Shoney'south soup! JACKPOT! I took the reviewers suggestion of adding celery to soften up the flavour and besides thought, hummmm, some chopped green pepper would besides be nice & the soup turned out Yummy! I honey this site!!! P.S. I also establish others suggestions great - to substitute beef broth or stock for the as well salty bouillon cubes.
01/22/2009
Yummy! I didn't recall it would plow out and so delicious. I always take hesitations when I look at the ingredients and see things we don't usually eat. Or I question how well they mesh. If yous are the aforementioned way, make this recipe. Information technology was then unproblematic. Easy clean up. And the all-time part, my kids liked it. Sidenote: I cooked on loftier for four hours. Temp is likewise hot, it browned the beans and some of cabbage. I would suggest cooking on low for 6-viii hours. I also used 15 oz. tomato sauce. It needs 24 ounces.
02/23/2011
Started this from memory, so had a few changes. (I had looked at a like recipe prior to making this.) Don't think my changes were plenty to change the basic recipe. I had already chopped dark-green peppers, onions and celery and had them sauteing in butter before I could get my girl off the figurer long enough to let me check the recipe! I used a quart jar of my canned crushed tomatoes and ane tin kidney beans. (What I had on hand.) Used bullion granules and left out the salt. Other recipe called for 2 cups cabbage. Actually glad I used the v that this recipe called for! May endeavour 2 cans beans next fourth dimension, but hubby and I remember the cabbage is the star in this recipe. (He didn't even know he likes cabbage! He does now! LOL) Left cabbage a little crunchy, and it was great! I also did this on the stovetop rather than the dull cooker. My 12 yr sometime picky eater wouldn't even TRY information technology! (Typical!) My nine yr old had ii bowls and came dorsum for a 3rd and 4th later! Hubby and I had 2 Large bowls each! Absolutely delishes!!!!! Thank you for a great recipe!!!!! Edit: I made this again without the green pepper and celery. Must say that nosotros liked information technology much better with the original changes I made. Still an excellent recipe as is. Just adjust to suit your families tastes.
11/29/2008
The best slow cooker soup I accept ever fabricated. Thanks for the recipe. I pretty much followed all the directions but used ready fabricated beefiness stock with roast onion instead of stock cubes. To upward the vege content, I added frozen peas and corn in the last four hours of cooking time. The cumin added a unique taste and I amped it upwardly with a dusting of chilli powder. I am going to make this again and again. Hearty, wholesome and salubrious too.
12/thirteen/2012
Fantastic soup, one of my favorites on this site! Very adaptable to tweeks. I exercise not apply the oil when cooking the beef and onion and I do add 2 cloves of garlic to the mix. I use beef broth instead of water and thus do not use the bouillon, a 28 oz tin can of whole peeled tomatoes crushed well instead of tomato sauce and include a stalk of celery diced. I like information technology cooked in the slow cooker and do then for well-nigh 3 hours on high. When the cabbage is tender I adjust seasoning to taste and add a piffling burgoo then instead of salt for a deeper beef flavor. I similar the flavour the cumin adds but I don't think it tastes like chili because to me chili needs chili pulverisation. Another plus about this soup is that it freezes well.
01/22/2011
This soup was awesome - my husband couldn't believe how adept it was and healthy also! My mom stopped by and had a bowl and now she wants the recipe too. I similar that information technology is made with tomato-based broth instead of chicken broth. My changes: Instead of kidney beans I used black beans (I had them on paw), I subbed spaghetti sauce instead of tomato sauce (once again what I had on hand), and added some chopped sweet red peppers. It turned out thick, filling and succulent!
12/23/2010
Very expert! The pickiest men in the family LOVED it specially (which says alot)! :)
x/eleven/2005
My hubby said this was the best cabbage soup he has eaten! I did use 1 tin kidney beans and one can ranch style beans. I besides forgot to utilize the cumin. I seasoned my basis beef with season all and I used 1 whole onion chopped. My kids and I also loved this soup! Will make over again! I also added a can of diced tomatoes and pressure cooked information technology for 3 mintues. This was a xx minute meal for us!!!!
12/31/2010
Pulled this together with what I had on hand. Used one fifteen oz. tin can lycopersicon esculentum sauce and chopped three plum tomatoes, one can pinto and 1 tin can black (our favorites), substituted beef broth for the water and bouillon. Used a whole onion. Followed previous suggestions and cut the cumin downwardly to 1t, used 1t of garlic powder, and chopped a whole head of cabbage. Looking at some like recipes I added 3T apple cider vinegar and 2T sugar at the end to ameliorate the flavour. Last thing, I would definitely put the cabbage in at the very get-go. It cooks perfectly and melts in your oral fissure! Yummy.
03/02/2008
Very good. I fabricated this on the stove meridian instead of in the crockpot.
01/17/2010
Ohhh, is this expert! I don't change recipes usually, just I had already cooked down a chuck roast (in water) and cutting it in pieces. I was going to brand a vegetable beef soup, but at the last minute I thought I'd check my saved recipes and found this. I had a cabbage that needed to exist used upward so I fabricated this. Like others I did not use the cumin - we but had chili so I didn't desire the soup to gustatory modality like that. I had only a modest tin can of tomato plant sauce, merely I had enough of stewed tomatoes I put upwards this fall. So I used them instead but I'm positive the soup would taste just every bit good using the tomato sauce as written. I added the cabbage half way through. It is and then proficient and so nutritious! With the tomatoes, the beans and of class, the cabbage it's very good for you! I recommend this to anyone and everyone. I am bringing some to my mom and to my sister to endeavor; I know they'll love information technology - I'thou so certain they'll similar that I accept printed off the recipe to give them when I give them the soup! Thank you for this succulent recipe! (it's a very easy soup to make and is very "forgiving" to changes you may need to brand based on the contents of your pantry!)
01/18/2013
My husband loved this. I added 2 cups more h2o as we similar our soup a petty more than juicy. I besides added a nuance of Worchestershire and a tablespoon of crushed crimson pepper for a bit of zing and spice. I simply made our 2nd pot of this last night. A large 2 thumbs up for this cabbage soup recipe. The all-time part about information technology, information technology's even better the 2nd day.
01/06/2015
Keen and elementary recipe! I slightly modified information technology by using 2 craven breasts (which I lightly seared for ~7 minutes earlier calculation to the slow cooker), and I used 12oz lycopersicon esculentum sauce and 12oz chipotle sauce which gave it a HUGE heave of flavor. I also put the cabbage in afterward half-dozen hours so it was only in the cooker for about two hours which made it not soggy at all. I'll be sure to make it again!
01/11/2015
Love this recipe. I had to change a few things like, black beans instead of kidney beans. A handful of carrots. I had no cumin, but I added about a TBSP of cayenne (I dear spice) I added a can of corn and about 1 TBSP of fresh parley and 1 TBSP of cilantro. I took the advice of previous reviews and didn't add the cabbage until most ii hours until I needed it to be washed. And yes this recipe does gustatory modality like chili with cabbage...merely without the quilt of eating as well much crimson meat and eating healthy filling vegetables.
10/16/2011
This was First-class!! I did however make some changes. I used ground Turkey, 1 can Kidney beans, 1 tin Garbanzo beans, 3/4 loving cup Matchstick Carrots, 32 oz low sodium beef broth instead of burgoo cubes, 20 oz tomato plant sauce, fourteen oz of chunky tomatoes, i originally used five cups of cabbage but half way through eating the soup I added more cabbage. So side by side time I think I would do like eight cups of cabbage...
05/03/2010
A comforting and filling soup!! Yummy! I did desire to annotation, however, that this recipe with fill a 6qt irksome cooker to the brim! If you accept a smaller tedious cooker, yous'll demand to reduce the recipe proportionately!
01/22/2011
Really really skillful!! Didnt change a matter and thought information technology was great! Perfect for a cold winter'south dark!!!
01/18/2011
I really enjoyed this! I replaced the beefiness with MS veggie crumbles, and replaced the beef bouillon with craven bouillon (what I had available), but I don't call back those changes were very drastic from the original recipe. Hearty, yet not heavy, filling, and you tin feel good about information technology. I'm sure I volition be making this often!
11/xvi/2004
This was very good, although I did brand i modification. Since I had only canned chili beans in the cupboard, I used those instead of plain kidney beans. The soup was rich, flavorful and a hitting with my husband, who was skeptical when I told him I was making cabbage soup. The cabbage added a little bit of crunch to the soup.
eleven/05/2012
Nosotros love this soup
03/07/2011
I have fabricated this Soup 3 times already and it just keeps getting ameliorate and better every time! Of course it always tastes improve the next day after all of the flavors take molded together, but this is admittedly the BEST cabbage soup recipe that I have ever tried! This is definately a fave in my business firm and volition be for a long hereafter! EXCELLENT job on this one!!!!
01/09/2015
This was a huge hitting on new years day. Doubled the recipe for lots of left overs! Thanks Nancy!
03/sixteen/2011
We loved this! I have a picky hunny only he told me i'd better brand this every week! lol :) thanks for the recipe!
01/12/2009
Entire family loved. Will make again. Made exactly as shown, made no changes.
eleven/x/2005
This is i of our favorite things to consume! I use an unabridged head of cabbage, decrease the tomato sauce and add together 2 cans of diced tomatoes, celery, and substitute 1 can of kidney beans with a can of navy beans for a lilliputian variety. Nosotros LOVE THIS SOUP!
09/21/2010
Nosotros are really enjoying this soup. I fabricated this as directed, except I did cutting the cumin back to 1 tsp and didn't bother using the vegetable oil (my beefiness rendered enough fat). I cooked this in the crockpot on low for 6 hours. The merely change I might make next time is to use ane xv oz. can of tomato sauce and one 15 oz. can of diced tomatoes, rather than just tomato plant sauce. Thank you.
01/03/2015
The first fourth dimension I made information technology as it is called and we loved it. The second fourth dimension I added cubed sweet potato and it was even better. I am wondering near changing the beans to garbanzo, just haven't tried that yet. Fifty-fifty my 7 year old ate it upwardly!
03/29/2010
I thought this soup was excellent! I honey soup, though, and I occasionally similar cabbage if information technology is spiced well (and I got information technology on sale---its a very inexpensive and filling food!). My family unit was not so pleased---it smelled upward the firm, LOL. And so I am the sole reviewer here equally no one else would fifty-fifty try information technology. I am giving it 4 stars non considering of the smell (cabbage is a stinky vegetable, no one'south error at that place) but considering of the sodium. I only put ii beef cubes in and only ane tsp of salt. I did add together a couple of dashes of hot sauce for flavor. I also a used a jar of pizza sauce instead of tomato plant sauce considering that is what I had on hand and I added more than water.
01/10/2009
This was good. To those who said cutting the cumin, I disagree. It needed information technology for flavor. I started out not using information technology, and then added it afterward. Only eyeballed it, didn't measure. I don't think this tasted similar chili, chili has chili pulverisation. I did add garlic with the browning meat and tossed some in the pot too, we love garlic. I used white cantinelli beans (but a personal preferance). I would recommend cutting the cabbage thin. Instead of the 2 cups of water and bouillon cubes, I used a can of 99% fatty free and reduced sodium beef broth. Does the same matter, just cuts down the sodium and fourth dimension. I also threw the cabbage in with 3 hours left to cook (cooked on depression for 8 hours) - I only did this because another reviewer said the cabbage would be over cooked. I am wondering if I could have just followed the directions in the recipe. The posted picture doesn't expect anything similar mine. You could see the cabbage. Served with some crusty staff of life, this was a good healthy dinner for a cold night! Thanks for the recipe.
02/17/2010
LOVE this soup! I didn't utilize any oil. Since I didn't accept enough tomato sauce, I used one can of tomato sauce and one can diced tomatoes then added a bit more water. All the other flavors are perfect and we really enjoyed information technology! The cabbage is a bang-up addition to this chili-like soup. Give thanks you for the recipe! :)
09/twenty/2011
This was good, and did make plenty for left overs. The simply thing is information technology's a bit salty. I had to add a Tbs of sugar and but put three boulion cubes. Almost sense of taste like chili, but with cabbage in it.
12/28/2008
I made this soup for my son and me...and he told me he didn't like cabbage. This is at present i of his favorites. Tastes ameliorate than my chili.
01/20/2011
Succulent! My hubby claims to despise cabbage, simply never even knew it was in at that place and loved it! I but used 1 can of beans, deleted the cumin, added more than stock and a bunch of garlic. I also simmered it on stove for a few hours. Very versatile.
03/09/2015
This recipe is really yummy! instead of basis beef I used ground turkey and instead of beef broth, I used chicken. Information technology turned out peachy!
09/28/2011
I changed this quite a scrap - used sausage instead of beef, and blackness beans instead of kidney - but holy moo-cow, information technology's wonderful!! I don't recollect I'd have liked information technology as much with simply ground beef, but the bones recipe is simply fantastic. (I also but cooked it in a soup pot, since the 24-hour interval slipped away from me and I didn't have iv hours to wait for the crock pot.)
03/09/2005
This is a really succulent soup. I didn't have any tomato plant sauce, but instead used a combination of tinned tomatoes and fresh ones, and it worked fine.
11/11/2011
Fantastic! As presently equally my married man and I finished it all I went right out to become more cabbage to make another pot!
04/23/2005
This soup turned out amazing! Information technology was wonderiful for the wintertime. We cooked information technology in our dull cooker all twenty-four hour period. It tasted like chili but, had cabbage in it. We loved it. I volition definetly be making this 1 every winter.
01/05/2009
This ane is great. Nosotros did make a few changes, calculation black eyed peas (a southern thing) and a cup of lycopersicon esculentum juice in identify of a cup of water (more flavor). It turned out really well, especially with a side of cornbread.
02/06/2011
As others have written, it is similar chili with cabbage only it is pretty tasty, and very piece of cake to prepare.
03/25/2011
I take made this i many times. Instead of tomato sauce I use a can of crushed tomatoes. I too add some chili pulverisation. Consider it a healthy chili. Top with cheese and onions. Cornbread on the side.
07/01/2011
Hubby doesn't similar this anymore. I similar information technology, but be certain to utilise ground beefiness, not the Morningstar Farms Crumbles!
10/05/2005
This dish is absolutely delicious. It does make a lot, but I separated into x portions, and froze it.
02/27/2009
Cooking Mama, really has a winner with this recipe. It was perfect on a cold winter day and the flavour was fantastic. I used 2 sixteen oz cans of unsalted canned beefiness stock in lieu of the bouillion cubes. Also used freshly footing pepper from the grinder. Fantabulous recipe, very tasty. The irksome cooker does all the work for this in iv hours. Perfect hearty soup!
11/03/2008
Keen soup, I volition try other veggies besides beans next fourth dimension. I call up so much more than tin can be done with the soup abreast a bean. Perhaps a can of corn, veg-all, or fresh zucchini.
01/06/2011
I wanted it to be done in less than 4 hours, so I cooked this on the stove instead of a crock pot. I used dried beans (soaked overnight, and then cooked for only about xxx minutes and then measured into 32oz and added to the soup). I feel at that place was as well many beans and non plenty beefiness or cabbage. Next fourth dimension I would cut the amount of beans in one-half and double the cabbage. Also, the cabbage should be added with simply an hour or two of cooking time left and then that it keeps a nice texture/season. I only used about a tsp of the cumin and added some thyme, marjoram, sage, and parsley. I served this with the herb bread from this site and it was tasty! It made a lot of soup, too! perfect for leftovers.
02/07/2011
This was actually proficient. Even my fussy 8 twelvemonth old liked it. Basically he volition but eat broccoli cheese soup or chili, no other soups. Personally my family unit would similar it with more of the tasty broth. I likewise thought I would like some peeled chopped tater in it. It does hint at tasting similar a chili and I might consider cut dorsum on the cumin sometimes too. Very yummy comfort food. Ohh I likewise did not have a 24oz tomato plant sauce so I used a 28 oz can Pastene ground tomatoes.
01/01/2015
A tasty, sneaky style to get some veggies in
01/02/2008
Definitely will exist my New year's day meal from now on! Every year I struggle to find a palatable way to swallow my cabbage and blackness eyed peas on NYD. The only changes I made were using black eyed peas instead of kidney beans, using 16 oz tomato plant sauce and xvi oz canned chopped tomatoes, using beef broth instead of water, and using only two bouillion cubes. My guests loved it and and then did I.
12/12/2009
This crecipe is and so easy and so filling. My husband almost terminate the whole soup by his own...
01/01/2007
I, as well, was looking for a quick culling when I craved stuffed cabbage rolls, but this failed. Information technology is Chili with Cabbage & is not something I will make once more.
03/19/2012
I really like this. Fabricated mine with spagetti sauce (because that is what I had), left out the water, beef bouillion cubes, and cumin), made if more of a chili. Want to try it next with the cumin and tomato sauce
01/17/2011
My husband and son love this. I substitute beef broth for the h2o and beef bouillon cubes.
02/28/2010
Very adept, only 2 problems: 1- tastes kinda like Chili; Will read suggestions Beginning next time and omit the Cumin 2- a little less "soupy" than I'm used to for a soup, maybe I wont drain the beans next time.....
03/01/2008
Just wonderful! I generally hate to alter recipes then charge per unit them as I don't observe it fair to the recipe submitter. I tin only imagine how groovy this is without the alterations that I made! With that existence said, I fabricated a only a few minor tweaks as followed: I just used ane can of Northern beans (I don't like kidney beans), nixed the cumin, and used one regular tin of tomato plant sauce and 1 regular tin can of petite diced tomatoes. So again, no major changed in my opinion. We ate this for dinner and I served with yeast rolls. I'm quite sure this volition be one of those dishes that'southward even 10x better the adjacent day. Fantastic recipe; thanks for sharing! :)
11/xiii/2006
My family unit- including the 8 and 6 yr olds- eats annihilation. Artichokes, saurkraut, no trouble. We love new flavors. Simply information technology's a few minutes before suppertime, and I'1000 scrambling to make peanut butter and jelly for supper. This is the first time that I've made an allrecipes.com recipe that was just straight upward TERRIBLE!! I checked and double checked the recipe, and I did information technology correct... it just doesn't taste skillful.
01/13/2009
I loved this!! Very hearty. I used i/2 cup of lentils instead of the beans.
03/fourteen/2010
Very tasty! I made this soup for my sick fiance and every bit it was cooking, he exclaimed, "Yuck! It smells similar cabbage in here, I hate cabbage!" A few hours later - he was demolishing the soup. I believe he ate all of it except one bowl; my bowl! I used crushed tomatoes rather than tomato sauce which made a very thick base for the soup. the reason I have to knock it down a peg is because it was very hard to fit all the ingredients in the slow cooker. I have an boilerplate to big size cooker and I could barely go the lid on with all the cabbage. Information technology managed to cook downwards a bit but information technology was touch and go for a flake.
03/01/2005
Easy, simple to brand and smashing tasting.
11/08/2009
Excellent! My kids love this, they ask me to make information technology all the time! Difficult to believe, especially since they normally don't similar cabbage. They choose this over my regular chili! I like it because the ingredients are very low in fat and it'due south a very nutritious meal. Serve with fresh Italian or French bread. The merely change I make is omitting the vegetable oil when cooking the meat, it's not necessary. I usually use ground beef, merely I'm sure you can use footing turkey to proceed it existent low in fat. Enjoy! Fifty-fifty if you lot aren't a cabbage fan, y'all will love this!
04/17/2010
I wasn't a fan of this recipe.
12/12/2008
I made this considering I had a small caput of cabbage in my refrigerator that I needed to use up. This soup is very adept, simply it is basically chili with cabbage in it. I also found it to be very salty but yet expert. I halved the recipe but the ane affair I did change was the tomato sauce... I used one tin of diced tomatoes and one small tin can of tomato sauce. This could business relationship for the chili like texture... but either way it would withal gustatory modality like chili. My young man didn't really similar it but he is picky.
11/06/2010
I fabricated it exactly every bit written and it was manner also much cumin. Gustatory modality like chili, not what we wanted.

This was fantastic! The but change I made was omitted the kidney beans and instead, I used cooked dark-brown rice that I added in the last hour of simmering. It tasted just like what we call "pigeons" (or blimp cabbage rolls) here in PA.

This was sooo delicious! But I did alter it up a piddling bit. I used ground turkey instead of the beefiness. I added iv carrots, 2 celery, and 1 cup chopped eggplant. I tin of rotel tomatoes. I omitted the kidney beans. The base of the recipe I kept the aforementioned. My hubby does not like cabbage and he wanted nothing to do with this soup... that is until he had a bite of mine. He said it was really good. :)

I've made this twice now. Love the flavor (the cumin is a neat addition) and dear that information technology is high nutrition and low fat. I did make one modify in that bouillon cubes all seem to have MSG in them and nosotros are fugitive that. So I merely added h2o and a chip of extra sea common salt

To have more chili taste, I added a tin can of diced seasoned tomatoes, 4 additional cups of beef broth. Not sure, but plan to replace my crock pot considering recipe was besides full-bodied by the tomato sauce; recommend diced tomatoes be used instead.

I had bought a large head of cabbage at a farmer'southward market place and was looking for a soup recipe that was a bit "different", and also healthy. The outset fourth dimension I make a recipe from this site, I like to brand it exactly as it appears so I tin can rate it appropriately. My hubby was definitely worried considering he didn't remember the recipe sounded good; I, however, had high hopes considering of all the great reviews (and knowing that nosotros both honey cabbage). The recipe did non disappoint, and I'm happy to say even my skeptical husband loved this soup! We both similar spicy dishes, so once in our bowls we both added some hot sauce just to add some kick. As others have stated, it did remind united states of america a little of chili, but that'south okay - information technology's to be expected with ground beef, kidney beans and love apple sauce! The cabbage was wonderful and without the cumin I don't think the recipe would be nearly equally delicious. I'll definitely exist making this once more!
